The nation of Swaziland is home to nearly 1 million people, of which approximately 10% or 100,000 are identified as Muslims,[citation needed] making Islam the third largest religion in the country. Islam in Swaziland probably dates to the colonial period, when, as in Swaziland's much larger neighbor South Africa, many Muslims settled in the country from other countries under the dominion of the British Empire. As such, Muslims in Swaziland predominate in urban areas.[citation needed]
