The person who discovered the pancreas cells is Paul Langerhans, a German biologist and pathologist. These cells called "Islets of Langerhans" are cells in the kidney that produce insulin, the blood suger level reducing hormone (i.e. if these don't work, you have diabetes).

Occasionally, "Isles\Islets of Langerhans" are used as a form of comedy or nonsense place names.
