Music Encyclopedia: Ivan Alexandrovich Vïshnegradsky

(b St Petersburg, 14 May 1893; d Paris, 29 Sept 1979). Russian composer. A pupil of Sokolov and disciple of Skryabin, he moved to Paris after the Revolution and produced much quarter-tone music; from 1936 he used two differently tuned instruments for ultrachromatic compositions. He also created projects for his music to be accompanied by coloured lighting.
