Dictionary of Dance: Jürgen Rose

Rose, Jürgen (b Bernburg, 25 Aug. 1937). German theatre designer. He was invited to design Cranko's Stuttgart production of Romeo and Juliet in 1962 and went on to design many other Cranko ballets including Swan Lake (1963), Onegin (1965), and the Stuttgart production of The Merry Widow (1971). He also designed many other works including Tudor's Giselle (Berlin Opera Ballet, 1963), Franca's Nutcracker (National Ballet of Canada, 1964), MacMillan's Concerto (Berlin Opera Ballet, 1966), Neumeier's Baiser de la fée (Frankfurt, 1972), Romeo and Juliet (Royal Danish Ballet, 1974), Sleeping Beauty (Hamburg, 1978), and Lady of the Camellias (Stuttgart, 1978).
