Jeanne Marie Tripplehorn (born June 10, 1963) is an American film actress.

Early life

Tripplehorn was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the daughter of Suzanne (née Ferguson) and Tom Tripplehorn (known as "Tommy Tripplehorn"), who was once a guitarist with Gary Lewis & the Playboys.^[1] After graduating from high school, Tripplehorn became a DJ at Tulsa radio station KMOD-FM, using the air name "Jeanie Summers." She was stage-trained as an actress (at Juilliard) and also served as a TV hostess.

Career

Tripplehorn is best-known for her roles starring opposite Michael Douglas in Basic Instinct, Kevin Costner in Waterworld, and Tom Cruise in The Firm. Tripplehorn currently has a leading role as Barbara Henrickson in the HBO drama Big Love.

She has also been on broadway in Anton Chekov's "The Three Sisters" opposite Amy Irving and Lili Taylor. Prior to this, she appeared off-Broadway in John Patrick Shanley's "The Big Funk" in 1990, then co-starred with Val Kilmer in a 1993 production of John Ford's 1630s play "'Tis Pity She's a Whore."

Personal life

Tripplehorn was engaged to actor Ben Stiller for a time.^[2] She is now married to actor Leland Orser, and the couple have a son August Tripplehorn Orser born in 2002. Tripplehorn's grandmother, Jean Neely, appeared in the film Reality Bites, in which Tripplehorn also had a role.^[2]
