Biography

Most often billed as Jerry Cady, this American-born screenwriter came to Hollywood in the mid-1930s. From 1937 to 1939, Cady was part of the 20th Century-Fox writing staff, churning out scripts for the Charlie Chan and Mr. Moto series. He moved to RKO, where until 1942 he worked on films ranging from the "model" "B" picture Five Came Back (1939) to Lupe Velez's "Mexican Spitfire" farces. Then it was back to Fox, where he earned an Academy Award nomination for A Wing and a Prayer. Immediately promoted to "A" pictures, Jerome Cady contributed to such top-rank Fox features as The Purple Heart (1944), Forever Amber (1947) and Call Northside 777 (1947). ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
