Sturges, Jock (b. 1947), American photographer. A student of the photographer and printer Richard Benson, Sturges worked and studied at Marlboro College in Vermont before gaining his MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute in 1985. His published work consists almost entirely of studies of pre-pubescent and adolescent girls (sometimes posed with their mothers) photographed in French and East and West Coast American naturist resorts. Stunning in their clarity and straight-on simplicity, the large-format nude images—in no way pornographic—have, nonetheless, generated an enormous body of discussion while making Sturges, married and now living in Washington state, financially very successful.
