Venture capitalist John Doerr funded a variety of successful high-tech companies. These include: Amazon.com, Compaq, Drugstore.com, Excite, Google, Healtheon, Intuit, Netscape and Sun Microsystems.
Doerr is known for his energy and enthusiasm, and was described by Sun Microsystems Inc.'s CEO, Scott McNealy, as "the Energizer Bunny on steroids hard-wired to the Hoover Dam." He obtained a B.S. and an M.S. in electrical engineering from Rice University and an MBA from Harvard Business School. He was employed by Intel (1974-1980) as an engineer and marketing manager, which he has said was vital to his ability to identify with young entrepreneurs.
