Joseph P. Lash won 1972's Pulitzer Prize for Biography and a National Book Award for his work Eleanor and Franklin, about President Roosevelt and his First Lady.

Having received his bachelor's degree at CCNY, Lash earned a master's degree and went on for a PhD in English literature from Columbia University. Two of his books were made into television movies: Eleanor and Franklin and Helen and Teacher.
