Joshua Major
(1786–1866)
English land-scape-gardener, who designed some of the earliest public parks in Manchester (Philips and Queen's, and Peel at Salford). He designed gardens at Oaks Norton, Yorks. (1832), Derwent Hall, Derbys. (1833), and the Leeds Botanical Gardens. He was the author of The Theory and Practice of Landscape Gardening (1852), and often contributed to Loudon's publications.
