Biography
Garcia was born in New York City to Cuban immigrant parents.[1] His first break came when he auditioned for the TV show "Fame" (1982) and got the part. He then landed a role in Wes Craven's A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984), in which he appeared opposite Johnny Depp. This was followed by an appearance in Universal's Gotcha! (1985) opposite Anthony Edwards and Linda Fiorentino, and then in quick succession in features such as Traffic (2000), Wildcats (1986), Slaves of New York (1989), Vampire in Brooklyn (1995) and numerous others. In 2002 Garcia was in Randall Wallace's We Were Soldiers (2002) in which he portrays Mel Gibson's heroic buddy, the commander of a company fighting against the Viet Cong; and in Andrew Davis' Collateral Damage (2002), in which he plays a villainous Communist guerrilla who battles good guy Arnold Schwarzenegger. In addition to numerous stints on such TV shows as "JAG" (1995), "Arli$$" (1996), The Facts of Life, Miami Vice, Babylon 5, She Spies Crossing Jordan and "Murder One" (1995), Garcia also played the hot, sexy[peacock term] male lead in an ABC / Touchstone pilot, "Then Came Jones", for Brancato/Selke - the guys behind "Boomtown" (2002) and has a recurring role on “Without a Trace” (2007). Jsu also played a major supporting role in Along Came Polly (2004), opposite Ben Stiller, Jennifer Aniston and Philip Seymour Hoffman for Jersey Films and Universal. Garcia's most challenging role as "Che Guevara" came true for him in Andy Garcia's passionate Cuban story, "The Lost City". In 2007 Jsu starred in “Tiny Dancer", directed by Eva Husson; and stars opposite Benicio del Toro’s version of Che Guevara in Stephen Soderberg’s “Che” aka “The Argentine”.
Jsu Garcia created his production company Scott J-R Productions in **** together with long time friend and mentor John-Roger. They made their first full length feature Spiritual Warriors in 2005, written and executive produced by Garcia and John-Roger and inspired by John-Roger’s bestselling book Spiritual Warrior: The Art of Spiritual Living. Spiritual Warriors was filmed in Egypt, Syria, Jordan and across the United States.
Garcia and John-Roger also created a distribution company Gilgamesh LLC to distribute their movie independently. Spiritual Warriors has screened in over 130 screenings in 47 cities across 20 countries, including premieres in Los Angeles, New York City, San Francisco, Chicago, Miami, London, Paris, Copenhagen, Madrid, Barcelona, Toronto, Caracas, Lima, Buenos Aires, Santiago, Tel Aviv, and Cairo. Spiritual Warriors has also been officially selected for international film festivals in Toronto, Tel Aviv, Cairo, Cartagena and Hamburg. In 2008 he toured Europe and South America, and extensively across the US. Jsu continues to tour with upcoming screenings of ‘Spiritual Warriors’, and heads up the distribution for all sales of the DVD, currently being distributed independently through his company Gilgamesh LLC and on Amazon.
