Kagera River

 

River, northwestern Tanzania. The most remote headstream of the Nile River and the largest tributary of Lake Victoria, it rises in Burundi near the northern tip of Lake Tanganyika and flows north, constituting the boundary between Tanzania and Rwanda. Turning east, it forms the boundary between Tanzania and Uganda before emptying into Lake Victoria. It is about 250 mi (400 km) long.

The confluence of the Kagera and Ruvubu rivers near Rusumo Falls, Rwanda/Tanzania

The Kagera River, also Akagera River, is a remote source of the Nile. The river originates in Burundi, forms the Rwanda-Tanzania, Tanzania-Uganda border and flows into Lake Victoria. During the Rwandan Genocide the river brought massacred bodies into Lake Victoria. It lends its name to Akagera National Park in northern Rwanda. On the river are Rusumo Falls.

It is near the province and town of Rusumo.
