(b Plauen, 15 Oct 1926; d Munich, 15 Feb 1981). German organist and conductor. He studied in Leipzig and became organist of the Thomaskirche there in 1947. Later he taught and played in Munich, directing the Munich Bach Choir and Orchestra. He performed a wide repertory but, although he avoided any concessions to historical style, was chiefly known for his performances and recordings of Bach and Handel.
