In some episodes, the plot line is obvious. with different alien species you can usually tell just by looking at them. The bad guys: Kazon, Hirogen (in the episodes before The Killing Game Parts 1&2) Borg, Malon, ect. I'd just say watch the episode to the end! :)

In the episode, "Worst Case Scenario" they find a holodeck program about the ship being taken over by the Maqui. Other than that, the Maqui didn't do anything. Seska, (one of the Maqui members) took over the ship with the Kazon in the episode "Basics". The other Maqui had nothing to do with it.

This question is far to vaige to give an exact answer, there are many races and beings in star trek, some have name, Cardassians, Klingons, Kazon ect, But some are not as well known, For example species 8472, (A borg designation.) Or the Q continuum, But like i said, To vaige, To my knowledge there is nothing in Star Trek that has been refered to just as a being.
