Customers who belly up to the L'Occitane counter count on high-end skin care as well as culinary items. L'Occitane (pronounced "lox-ee-tahn") makes body and skin care, men's grooming items, hair care, and home fragrances using natural ingredients from the Provence area. It owns Olivier & Co., an olive oil producer and retailer, and operates subsidiaries in the US, Hong Kong, and the UK. Products, most of which have Braille labels, include anti-aging creams, shea butter lip balms and hand creams, orange nutmeg incense sticks, Lavender Harvest fragrance, and the L'Oranger line. Wikipedia: L'Occitane

L'Occitane (IPA: lɔksi'tan) (in full L'Occitane en Provence) (IPA: lɔksitanãpʁo'vãs) is an international retailer of body, face and home products. The company, founded by Olivier Baussan in 1976 and based in Manosque, France, creates items based on botanicals grown in the tradition of Provence. L'Occitane's stated objective is to revive the use of local plants, preserve local customs, and update traditional products for the modern world.

The company name, "L'Occitane," means "The woman from Occitania" in French.

Social activism and access

L'Occitane aims to create a greater respect for the environment, for their consumers, suppliers and employees. For example, many (but not all) of the botanicals used to create their products are organically grown.

L'Occitane has also partnered with a women's cooperative in Burkina Faso. The women of the cooperative harvest Shea nuts for shea butter, which is used in many L'Occitane products. The money these women earn for their hard work is theirs alone.

Since 1997, L'Occitane products have been dual-labeled in Braille, making it easier for blind customers to find the items they want.[1] L'Occitane has also entered into a partnership with ORBIS International, a nongovernmental organization dedicated to fighting preventable blindness around the world.
