label string

Marketing Dictionary: label string

Postal presorted segment of a label set, such as carrier route qualified records, five-digit qualified records, and non-presorted records. Label strings are printed in ZIP code and other presort sequence so that as labels are applied to a mailing piece, the appropriate postal presort breaks in the mailing can be made. This may be accomplished manually by someone watching for barcodes on the labels signifying breaks, or it may be automated, utilizing a machine that reads the codes on labels and automatically separates mailing pieces from each label string.
