[Latin lacrimōsus, from lacrima, tear. See lachrymal.]
lachrymosely lach'ry·mose'ly adv.
Tears on the baseball field were the subject of a recent New York Times article, which apparently coined a new word: lachrymologist, from lachrymose (weepy) + ologist (those who study):
"The fans were not prepared to see [Pedro] Martinez hunched over in the dugout with Manager Willie Randolph putting his arm around him, consoling him.
"Resident lachrymologists in the news media debated whether Martinez was crying, sobbing, weeping or just tearing up a bit."
