Jews do not count 49 days to Lag B'Omer.
There are 49 days of the Omer which represent the time during
which the harvest occurs and also represent the intervening period
between the Exodus in Egypt (Passover) and the Receiving of the
Torah (Shavuot). Lag B'Omer is the 33rd day of this counting and
commemorates the death of Talmudic Sage Shimon bar Yochai. The Sage
said that his Yahrzeit (or death anniversary) should be a day of
merriment, and that's why Lag B'Omer is celebrated.
