Biography

A 60s and 70s rock singer who taught herself how to sing and perform in front of audiences. With no formal voice training she made her way into the music industry by just being herself and and doing what she wanted to do. A trim, tall, long-haired bombshell, many believed that Lana Cantrell had to be something more than just a singer, because of her beauty, demeanor and class.

Born in Sydney, Australia, Lana Cantrell had been exposed to music her whole life. Her father was a jazz musician. She made her singing debut in Australia at the age of 10. At the ripe of age of 15 she walked down the streets of Australia as a celebrity. By the age of 18 she was a well-known TV personality in Australia. Although everyone knew her "down under," she strived to be internationally known. Her goal was to do everything "humanly possible" in show business. At 19 she traveled to the United States to do everyhting "humanly possible" which meant trying her hand in film and stage.

Lana Cantrell adjusted easily to the United States striving to become what she was in Australia, but her career began slowly in America. Finally, her personal vocal style began to shine through. Once she made a name for herself, people began dubbing her "Thrush," a word that describes her determination and urgency to be a singing star. Lana Cantrell claims she was not influenced by any one person, she performs honestly and from the heart. Her optimism and energetic style of performing attracted many followers and thus led to an international singing career. She began performing on the night club and television circuit and made a name for herself.

With a determination of being a singer, Lana Cantrell did all she could to make herself known. She performs rock songs all over the world and the United States, performing in concerts and festivals. In 1996 she made an appearance in Sydney at the Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Festival with Paul Capsis, Jeanne Little and Combo Fiasco.

Besides being an acclaimed rock singer, Lana Cantrell has also made her mark as an athlete. She was once the table-tennis champion of New South Wales. Her interests include yoga and a passion for life. Her view on marriage is nonchalant believing a piece of paper should not hold such importance.
