The Lebanese support for Assad primarily comes from Hezbollah control in the government. If Sunnis and Christians in Lebanon were able to strengthen the national army and oust Hezbollah from government power (this is nearly impossible because Hezbollah has always been more powerful than the national Lebanese Army), the position of Lebanon would probably move closer to neutrality.

The lebanese have contributed only two things to Australia,
Lebanese bread and Gang Violence. Gang Violence happens around most
inner-city ares, and sadly, these cowards are not stopped by the
Government.

There were many causes for the Lebanese Civil War, but the
greatest was likely the attempts of the PLO and other Palestinian
Militant Organizations to coopt (through violence) the Lebanese
Government to gain increased support for Palestinian Refugees in
the country.
