Lectio Divina is the ancient monastic art of praying with the
Bible. You start reading slowly and meditatively, and talk to God
about what you're reading. In doing this, you are trying to draw
out of the reading the meaning, and how it applies to your life. It
is the very opposite of speed-reading. I know people who have been
using a book of the Bible for Lectio, and they may be in the same
book for months. Bottom line? It is used to pray to God. See links
