Review

With their second album, Life Is Peachy, Korn have enhanced their metallic influences, delving deeper into murky sonic textures and grinding, menacing rhythms straight out of underground black metal. Korn add enough elements of alternative rock song structure to make the music accessible to the masses, and their songwriting has continued to improve. Nevertheless, the band's main strength is their raging, visceral sound, which is far more memorable and effective than their songs. The riffs might not always catch hold, but the primal guitars and vocals always hit home. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide

Album information

The album features a darker and more experimental sound than the band's self-titled debut album, and contains more unconventional themes. A video was made showing Korn recording Life Is Peachy, entitled Who Then Now? which was included on the follow-up release Deuce.

"No Place to Hide" earned the band a second Grammy nomination in Best Metal Performance category (it was nominated in year 1998).

Reception

Life Is Peachy received mixed reviews from critics.

The album debuted on #3 spot on The Billboard 200, selling 106,000 of copies in its first week despite minimal radio airplay and TV attention. To date, it has sold over two million units in the United States.

Q magazine (3/02, p.137) - 3 stars out of 5 - "Harsher and harder than their groundbreaking debut." [1]

Original promo cassette

Prior to the album's release a promo cassette was made. There are several differences between this and the final release, notably the track listing of Side One. Note that the end of "Good God" and the beginning of "Porno Creep" segue well together. Also note that the "Ø" is missing from "K@#Ø%!" and that "Lowrider" is spelled as two words instead of one. Also, the notation at the end is the only instance of giving an official name to the hidden track, "Twist Acapella."
