Biography

When the quick-rapping, crunk to the core Lil Wyte first came to the attention of the Three 6 Mafia it was with an all-white group of which Wyte was a member. The group fell apart but the Memphis-based Wyte was too skilled to be stopped. Three 6 Mafia members Juicy J and DJ Paul signed the under-21 rapper immediately after the group's disbanding and soon were working on his debut. Doubt Me Now appeared in 2003 and became a word-of-mouth hit among crunk and Southern rap's hardcore fans. Wyte's "Smoking Song" started to appear on numerous street-level mixtapes and Internet message boards were filled with Wyte talk. The Warner Bros. label took notice and approached the rapper about becoming a flagship artist for the relaunch of Warner's Asylum imprint. He signed, and brought Juicy J and DJ Paul along with him. The trio's work made Wyte's 2004 release, Phinally Phamous, one of the most "real" and "street" releases to appear on a major label under the crunk banner. ~ David Jeffries, All Music Guide

Early life

At the age of eight Lanshaw discovered his rapping talent as he could rap Sir Mix-a-Lot's entire song "Baby Got Back" without missing a word. He started participating in freestyle battles at high school when he was in ninth grade. Lanshaw rapped with his friend "Lil Black", who inspired him to use a pseudonym Lil Wyte and write songs instead of freestyling.[2]

Music career

Wyte was a member of an all-white hip hop group, Shelby Forest Click, when he first came to the attention of Three 6 Mafia. Juicy J and DJ Paul signed the rapper after the group's disbanding and worked later with his debut album.[4]

Lil Wyte's debut album Doubt Me Now was released in 2003 and it became an underground hit among fans, selling over 135,000 copies without any promotion.[2][5] Lil Wyte signed a record deal with Asylum Records and recorded second album Phinally Phamous. It was released in October 2004 and sold nearly 200,000 copies.[5]

His style was described as quick-rapping,[4] "machine gun-like delivery".[1] Lil Wyte described his style: "I've always felt like I was a pretty complex rapper to be from the South - I feel like I put a lot into my music."[5]

After three years of touring, promoting and recording his third studio album The One and Only was released in 2007.[5]

Lil Wyte's fourth album "The Bad Influence" debuted at number 104 on the U.S. Billboard 200

Lil Wyte's single "Fucked Up" appears in Season 1, Episode 4 of Eastbound & Down.[1]
