The Logan Act has never been successfully prosecuted and is considered to be largely unenforceable. Therefore, the 47 Republican Senators who sent a letter to Iranian leaders in 2015 expressing their concerns about the Iran nuclear deal did not technically violate the Logan Act. While their actions were criticized by some, it ultimately did not result in any legal consequences.
