Biography
Dutch composer Louis Andriessen (born Utrecht, 1939) is one of the most innovative and influential composers of the late 20th and early 21 centuries. He has avoided writing for orchestra and in conventional forms, decisions that have led him to create works of unusual inventiveness and vitality. His style is broadly eclectic, drawing on European modernism, American minimalism, and rock, and is notable for its rhythmic energy and strong lyricism. Andriessen's best-known works include De Staat, De Tijd, and De Materie for voices and large ensemble, and the theater works Rosa: The Death of a Composer and Writing to Vermeer. ~ Stephen Eddins, Rovi
