Louis Ferdinand, dauphin of France, who died aged 36 and was the
only son of Louis XV, then King of France. Therefore, Louis XVI
became the new dauphin and eventually King instead of his
father.

His older brother Louis-Joseph was actually the Dauphin of
France and the heir. But he sadly perished on June 4, 1789 from
tuberculosis at age 7. Louis-Charles became the Dauphin of France
at age 4 after his brother's death. After the execution of his
father on January 1793 he was seen by Royalists to be the next king
of France.
