His older brother Louis-Joseph was actually the Dauphin of France and the heir. But he sadly perished on June 4, 1789 from tuberculosis at age 7. Louis-Charles became the Dauphin of France at age 4 after his brother's death. After the execution of his father on January 1793 he was seen by Royalists to be the next king of France.
