No the University of Louisiana is not a community college. Currently there are 2 fully accredited Universities that are under the University of Louisiana system that use the name of The University of Louisiana. The University of Louisiana at Monroe and The University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

The University of Louisiana @ Monroe (formerly Northeast Louisiana University) ULM is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). All undergraduate programs eligible for accreditation by professional agencies are accredited. ULM is the only university in Louisiana to offer a master's in gerontology and the only public university in the state offering the Doctor of Pharmacy degree.

The University of Louisiana at Lafayette (formerly Southwest Louisiana University) Founded in 1898 as an industrial school, the institution developed into a four year university during the twentieth century and became known by its present name in 1999. Concurrently the university evolved into a national research and doctoral university as noted by its Carnegie categorization as a RU/H: research university (high research activity). It offers Louisiana's only Ph.D. in francophone studies and Louisiana's only industrial design degree.

The Universityof Louisiana System also supports seven other of the south's finest educational institutions which also includes Grambing State University, Louisiana Tech University, McNeese State University, Nicholls State University, Northwestern State University, Southeastern Louisiana University and University of New Orleans.
