Vogel, Lucien (1886-1954), French magazine publisher, editor, and photographer. He began as art director of various publications before becoming editor of Art et décoration, then in 1911 founded the luxury lifestyle magazine La Gazette du bon ton and became associated with Condé Nast, the publisher of Vogue. When French Vogue appeared in 1920, Vogel's wife Cosette de Brunhoff became editor, and Vogel served as art director from 1922 to 1925. In 1928 he founded the magazine Vu, but was eventually forced out by its conservative backers. After emigrating to the USA he worked for Free World, but in 1945 returned to France and ran Jardin des modes.
