Biography

Ohioan Luke Perry did well enough on the high school baseball team, but he was a somewhat lackadaisical student, with no real aim in life except for a vague desire to become an actor someday. That desire solidified into reality when Perry headed for Los Angeles in 1984, took acting lessons, and sought out auditions while supporting himself with construction and asphalting jobs. Eventually he landed the role of Ned Bates on the TV daytime drama Loving. In 1990, Perry was cast in the Fox Network's Beverly Hills 90210 in the supporting role of Dylan McKay. Audience response to Perry was so overwhelming that, by the time 90210 swung into its second season, he was not only one of the series' leading characters, but a full-fledged teen idol. From all accounts, Perry handled his "hunk heartthrob" status with class and diplomacy; this latter quality served him well during the well-publicized brouhaha over co-star Shannen Doherty. Perry finally left Beverly Hills 90210 for the greener pastures of theatrical films. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Luke Perry (born Coy Luther Perry III on October 11, 1966)[1] is an American actor best known for his role as Dylan Michael McKay in the TV series Beverly Hills, 90210.

Television

In Beverly Hills, 90210, Perry originally auditioned for the role of Steve Sanders.

Early in his career, he appeared opposite Alexandra Wilson on the ABC soap opera Loving, The two were reunited when he briefly joined the cast of NBC's Another World.

He appeared as Rev. Jeremiah Cloutier in the HBO television series Oz.

From 2002 to 2004 he played another character named Jeremiah in the post-apocalyptic TV series Jeremiah.

He has also guest starred in a number of television series. Perry voiced himself in an episode of Family Guy, where he was labelled as gay by Peter and sues the family. Peter tries to seduce Luke into becoming a homosexual and fails horribly. However, by the end of the episode Luke is seen with Mayor Adam West, about to engage in sex.

He played Krusty the Clown's half brother in an episode of The Simpsons. He appeared as Carter Heywood's ex-boyfriend who subsequently fell in love with a woman on Spin City. He was featured in an episode of Johnny Bravo, giving Johnny dating advice after Johnny saved him from a stampede of fan girls.

In 2006, Luke Perry appeared on an episode of Will and Grace as a gay birdwatcher, who caught the eye of Jack. His most recent television series NBC's Windfall was cancelled.

In an episode of What I Like About You, he reunited with former 90210 co-star Jennie Garth. He claimed he had been dating Val's (Jennie Garth) best friend when he and Val became romantically involved, clearly a parody of the 90210 "Brenda years."

On June 10, 2007, a new show on HBO from the creator of Deadwood called John from Cincinnati premiered co-starring Perry.

While his role on the HBO series mentioned above has sparked new life into Perry's struggling career, he has never been able to recapture the fame and fortune he received during his stint on 90210. He has auditioned for numerous roles in feature films only to be turned down time and again in favor of more prominent actors. Once a laughing stock in Hollywood, his role on a credible HBO series has resurrected his career and reports have claimed that Perry is mulling several offers for supporting roles in feature films.

Movies

His first significant motion picture role was as motorcycle-riding grungy sidekick Oliver Pike in 1992's Buffy the Vampire Slayer. He was the lead role in 1994's 8 Seconds and 1996's Normal Life. He had a minor role at the beginning of 1997 movie The Fifth Element

Stage

Perry appeared on Broadway in 2001 in a revival of The Rocky Horror Show playing Brad Majors.[2] In 2004 he appeared in the London production of When Harry Met Sally as Harry.[3] He also played in Supernova in 2005
