The Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award (MBNQA) is presented annually by the President of the United States to organizations that demonstrate quality.

The Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award is given to organizations in non profit, health care, business, and education sectors that show excellence. it is sponsored by the National Institute of Standards and Technology.

Companies and organizations are rated on these seven categories to qualify for the award: leadership; strategic planning; customer and market focus; measurement, analysis, and knowledge management; human resources focus; process management; and results.

The Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Improvement Act was signed into law on August 20th, 1987. Malcolm Baldrige died in a rodeo accident in a rodeo accident on July 25th, 1987, 26 days earlier. Although the Award was established in the fall of 1987, the first Awards were not presented until 1988 to Globe Metallurgical, Motorola and Westinghouse Electric Corporation Commercial Nuclear Fuel Division.
