Music Encyclopedia: Manoug Parikian

(b Mersin, Turkey, 15 Sept 1920; d London, 24 Dec 1987). English violinist of Armenian descent. He studied in London, made his solo début in 1947 and led several orchestras (Philharmonia, 1949-57) and ensembles. He was an admired teacher and a champion of young composers, many of whom wrote concertos for him.
