Biography

Manus Lunny is one of Celtic music's best young instrumentalists. A skillful guitar and bouzouki player, Lunny has toured and recorded with ex-Silly Wizard vocalist Andy B. Stewart and keyboardist Phil Cunningham. Since 1988, Lunny has been an essential element of the sound generated by traditional folk group Capercaille, appearing with the band in concert and on six of their albums.

A native of county Donegal, Lunny began his musical career as a member of the Wild Geese. He first collaborated with Andy B. Stewart on Stewart and Phil Cunningham's 1986 album, Fire In The Glen. In addition to supplying melodic accompaniment for Stewart's tender vocals, he oversaw the recording as producer. Lunny served the same role for Stewart's subsequent albums -- Dublin Lady in 1987 and At It Again and The Songs of Robert Burns in 1990. Lunny has continued to tour with Stewart as a duo and periodically as a trio with the addition of Cunningham. Lunny and Cunningham have also worked together as a duo. They composed and performed two songs, "When the Snow Melts" and "Channonry Point," for multi-artist albums compiled by Windham Hill. In November 1996, Lunny and Cunningham performed at Cite De La Musique in Paris. ~ Craig Harris, All Music Guide
