Biography

Best known for her portrayal of Marthe in Cousin Cousine (1975), versatile and beautiful French actress Marie-Christine Barrault has appeared in a number of Eric Rohmer films. She has also worked on the Paris stage and in television. The niece of Jean-Louis Barrault, she learned her craft from Rene Simon and at the Paris Conservatoire. Barrault made her film debut in Rohmer's Ma Nuit chez Maud (My Night at Maud's) (1969). Marie-Christine Barrault (born 21 March 1944) is a French actress, who has appeared in 45 films and numerous television productions.

Born in Paris, she got her start on television, in L'Œuvre, in 1967 and in the series Que ferait donc Faber? Her film debut was in 1969 in My Night at Maud's (Ma nuit chez Maud) in 1969.

In 1970 Barrault was featured along with Pierre Richard in a comedy film Le Distrait (Absent-minded).

In 1975 she starred in Cousin, cousine, and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress.

She is the niece of actors Jean-Louis Barrault and Madeleine Renaud.

Barrault's first husband was actor and producer Daniel Toscan du Plantier, with whom she had two children, David and Ariane. She was married to director Roger Vadim from 1990 until his death from cancer in 2000. They did not have mutual children.
