Subligny, Marie-Thérèse (b Paris, July 1666, d possibly 1735). French dancer. She appeared in the last court ballets given by Louis XIV and was premiere danseuse at Paris Opera (1690-1705), appearing in the opera ballets of Lully and Campra. This was at a time when women were just beginning to enter the dance profession and when she performed in London in 1699 she was the first professional ballerina ever seen by English audiences, performing with Claude Ballon.
