Markos Moulitsas Zunigna is the creator of the weblog "dailykos.com."
Born in Chicago in 1971, Markos spent his early years in El Salvadore; his family returned to the Chicago area in 1980, when they were forced out of El Salvadore by the civil war there. When he was 17, Markos joined the U.S. Army in artillery. He was discharged in 1992, and went on to college, majoring in philosophy, political science and journalism at Northern Illinois University, and receiving his law degree from Boston University School of Law.
While he was in the army, Markos picked up the nickname, "Kos" (rhymes with "rose"), and in 2002 he named his new blog after that name. He is also responsible for "Political State Report," which tracks politics from the 50 U.S. states, "Fishyshark," a blog which gave his point of view on his wife's pregnancy, and "OurCongress.org," which tracked the nation's hottest congressional races.
Kos and his family live in Berkeley, CA.
