Russians have many customs about courtship and weddings. Matchmakers will not make matches during the day, only after sunset. Weddings can not take place on the 13th of any month. Matchmakers would give bread to the bride's family. If the bride's parents accepted the deal, they cut the bread. If they didn't want their daughter to marry the man, then they returned the bread.
