French family of musicians. Michel (1689-1768), a violinist, served at the French court and composed instrumental and vocal music. His son Julien-Amable (1734-1811), at first a court violinist, was music master of the royal chapel, 1765-92, and composed mostly violin music and motets. A second son, Michel-Julien Mathieu [Lépidor] (1740-after 1777) was a composer, violinist and writer.
