The F-15 Eagle was a fighter aircraft designed by McDonnell
Douglas. It first flew on July 27, 1972. Today, it still enjoys the
best combat ratio of any aircraft ever, having never been shot down
by an enemy aircraft, though in several accidents have been shot
down or damaged by their own aircraft or in a crash. A dedicated
strike variant, the F-15E Strike Eagle, has been built. By now,
McDonnell Douglas has been absorbed by Boeing, and it has relieved
McDonnell Douglas of its production duties.
Israel, the United States and Saudi Arabia are all operating
both the F-15E and F-15. Japan only operates the F-15 and South
Korea solely the F-15E. Israel, Saudi Arabia and Japan have
specialized variants of the F-15 and F-15E.
