Meera was born on July 24, 1976.
Social Work
Welfare Organization
Meera plans to establish a social welfare organization that will provide shelter to homeless and needy women. The project will be named after her mother Shafqat Zara. A complex spread over an area of 16 acres (65,000 m2) of land will be constructed in Sheikhupura comprising a school, hospital and home for the needy and homeless women. Meera's mother donated land for the project and Meera intends to completed the huge project herself.
India-Pakistan Peace Walk
Meera was invited for the India-Pakistan peace March from Delhi to Multan on 23 March 2005, It was lead by Dr. Sandeep Pandey, a Magsaysay awardee. Mahesh Bhatt promoted the event in media.
Meera entered India from Delhi, when the official entry point on her visa was Mumbai. The Delhi Airport Authority detained her for a full day and were about to deport her back to Pakistan. Harsha, the organiser of the event and social activists rescued her after a day long negotiation with highly placed sources in Delhi.
Controversies
Through late 2004 and early 2005, she worked on her first Bollywood project Nazar, directed by Soni Razdan. This movie was the first joint production between India and Pakistan. It was released in February 2005. It immediately landed in trouble with the Pakistani Government, who objected strongly to a scene where she kisses the hero (played by Ashmit Patel of India), on religious and moral grounds. Allegedly, Meera has been fined an undisclosed amount for the kiss. Reportedly, the Pakistani Government is also considering a ban on Pakistani actors from working on Indian projects.
Later doubts were placed on Meera's claim that she had been fined when the Pakistani government denied placing any fines on Meera for the kiss. She had also claimed to have received death threats that were strongly disputed by her own colleagues.
Rivalaries
Meera and fellow actress Veena Malik have criticised each other in interviews. Another fellow Lollywood actress, Sana Nawaz claimed that Meera's death threats for her scenes in the movie Nazar, were self-created.
Personal Life
Her mother's name is Shafqat Zara Bokhari.
