Filipino Mexican are a multilingual Filipino ethnic group composed of Philippine citizens with Mexican ancestry. [1]
Filipino Mexican are ethnically diverse just like Mexicans in Mexico. They can be White Mexicans, Amerindian Mexicans, or members of any other group.
History
Most of their Mexican ancestors arrived in the Philippines during the Spanish colonial period. Between 1565, and 1815, many Mexicans, and Spaniards sailed to and from the Philippines as sailors, crews, prisoners, slaves, adventurers, and soldiers in the Manila-Acapulco Galleon assisting Spain in its trade between Mexico and the Philippines. Their legacies include many words of Nahuatl and Spanish origin found in Philippine languages; customs and traditions found in Philippine culture, the vernacular of Mexico; that are found in Filipino languages such as tiange (stalls), bangketa (sidewalk), chonggo (monkey), palenque (market), and among others.
