Midian is spelled: מדין (meed-YAHN)

He was 40 years of age when he went to Midian. (He was 80 when he left Midian to go to Egypt and confront Pharaoh).

Midian is believed to have been located in modern-day Saudi Arabia, and the people of Midian likely spoke a Northwest Semitic language. It is likely that Jethro, who is mentioned in the Bible as a priest of Midian and the father-in-law of Moses, would have spoken a dialect or variation of this language.

There is never an exact mention of where Midian is, but it is in the wilderness not far from Ancient Egypt. Most likely, given the fact that Jethro returned to Moses after Moses crossed the Red Sea, Midian would have been in the Sinai Peninsula.

According to the Bible, after Moses killed an Egyptian and fled Egypt, he went to the land of Midian and settled there. He hid himself among the people of Midian and eventually married the daughter of a Midianite priest.
