Ale is like beer, made using barley. The yeast ferments quickly,
resulting in a sweet, fruity beer. If you love going to ale houses
and choosing form their selection of ale, and love trying new ales,
then learning about the different types of ale available will
enable you to choose which one you like to drink.
-Step 1: Pale Ale
One of the more popular varieties of ale, it is brewed using a
very pale barley malt. It is also known as bitter in some places
and amber ale.
-Step 2: Red Ale
Red Ale is Irish Ale. It gets it red color from the roasted
barley which also makes it mild. It’s less bitter and maltier than
normal ale and not as strong.
-Step 3: Brown Ale
Lightly hopped and mild, the brown ale is nutty and sweet. It
appears dark brown, but isn’t very strong, despite its color.
-Step 4: Stout
Stout or porter ale is made from roasted barley. They are often
brewed and popular in England. They range from strong stout to very
weak stout.
-Step 5: Scotch Ale
Scotch ale is malty and strong and dark. It often has
caramelized notes and a slightly toffee flavor. It may be too
strong for some people, but many love its dark, strong flavor.
-Step 6: Old Ale
Old Ale is just that, it is aged, and often strong and dark,
also highly flavored.
Choosing ales will depend on your preference. If you prefer
strong dark ale then choose old ale, or scotch ale. If you prefer
week choose brown ale or Red Ale, you may prefer one to another.
