Mississippi Civil Rights Museum was created in 2011.

The movie loosely depicts the murders of James Chaney, Andrew Goodman and Michael Schwermer.

The three young men were being chased in "Mississippi Burning" because they were civil rights activists investigating the disappearance of a black civil rights worker. They were targeted by members of the Ku Klux Klan who were opposed to their efforts to bring about social change and racial equality.
