Moka Only

Daniel Denton (born Nov 14, 1973),^[1] known professionally as Moka Only, is a Canadian hip hop artist. Originally from Langford, British Columbia, near Victoria, he is now based in Vancouver. He was previously part of the hip hop group Swollen Members. His albums are released by Legendary Entertainment and URBNET Records.^[2]

Early Life

Moka Only appeared on the hip-hop scene in the early '90s. He is a Vancouver-based MC and producer self released more than a dozen full-length cassettes of his own material. He has worked with fellow Canadian Len and his own official debut album. As a teenager he began freestyling at house parties with his "partner in rhyme" Prevail. He moved to San Diego in 1994 and worked with artists such as Mr. Brady. Upon his return to Vancouver, Moka and Prevail formed Swollen Members with a local MC Madchild. Moka began putting out his own solo material out on cassettes he distributed which finally led to an appearance on the multi-platinum selling You Can't Stop The Bum Rush, the 1999 debut album from the Toronto hip-hop outfit Len. Two years later, Moka released some of his own tracks and released Lime Green on Battleaxe Records, the label he helped found. His long-awaited official debut, a set of thoughtful, sometimes abstract rhymes set to melodic, jazzy backing similar to De La Soul or A Tribe Called Quest, showed that despite his prodigious output of the past, Moka had plenty of good new material as well.^[3]

Personal Life

From 2006-2008 Daniel dated Canadian actress Shauna Baker.^[4]
