Moody's

One of the two best-known bond rating services, Moody's was created by American financial writer John Moody (1868–1958). Moody's also rates commercial paper, preferred and common stock, and municipal short-term bond issues. There are six Moody's manuals published annually, with weekly updates containing information on issuers and securities. The quarterly Moody's Handbook of Common Stocks follows more than 500 companies and analyzes the historical and present financial condition and the future outlook of each. Moody's Investment Grade Rating provides ratings such as MIG-1,2,3,4, to investment-grade or bank-quality municipal short-term debt securities. The ratings signify, respectively, best, high, favorable, and adequate quality.
