Morituri, group title of three one-act plays by H. Sudermann, published in 1896. They are Teja, Fritzchen, and Das Ewig-Männliche. The first is a symbolical prose tragedy, in which the besieged Teja, King of the Goths, learns from his bride the sweetness of life at the moment at which death becomes certain.
Das Ewig-Männliche is a rather feeble satirical verse comedy. Fritzchen (Drama in einem Akt), however, is possibly Sudermann's finest dramatic achievement. Fritzchen, the adored son of a retired major and his ailing wife, comes to say good-bye before leaving for a duel which he knows must have a fatal outcome for him. He conceals the matter as long as he can, but the major finds out and father and son leave on their last journey together.
