Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the
"Mormon" church) have always called themselves Latter-day Saints.
"Mormon" was a nickname given to them by their enemies, mocking
them for their belief in the Book of Mormon.
Mormons in pioneer times as well as today generally call
themselves Latter-day Saints and prefer that others call them by
this name as well. This title is sometimes abbreviated to LDS.
