The MTV Video Music Award for Video of the Year is the main award handed out at the yearly MTV Video Music Awards. It was first awarded in 1984, when The Cars won it, and has been given out since. Eminem has been the most nominated solo artist, male solo artist, and act in this category. He has been nominated five times for Video of the Year: in 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2009. He is the only act in VMA history to win Video of the Year two times: in 2000 for "The Real Slim Shady", and in 2002 for "Without Me". Madonna is the most nominated female solo artist in this category. In 1989, 1990, 1998, and 2006. She took home the Video of the Year title for "Ray of Light" in 1998. Britney Spears is second with 3 nominations in 2004, 2008, and recently in 2009, and with one win in 2008 for "Piece Of Me".
