Nanki-Poo (Sullivan: The Mikado). Tenor. Son of the Mikado. A minstrel, he has come to Titipu to marry Yum-Yum, only to be told that she is to marry her guardian, Ko-Ko. The elderly Katisha has set her heart on the Mikado's son. He is given permission to marry Yum-Yum, on condition that he is beheaded after a month. His friends conspire to save him and at the same time trick Ko-Ko into marrying Katisha. Aria: A wandering minstrel I; duet (with Yum-Yum): Were you not to Ko-Ko plighted. Created (1885) by Durward Lely.
