The American System was made up of reinforcing parts: a tariff, a national bank and federal subsidies

Protective tariff; government financed roads and canals; and a new national bank.

There were two main goals of the American System, to unify the nation, and to create a strong, stable economy. To achieve these goals, the American System proposed the creation of a Tariff, the resurrection of the second National Bank, and construction of Internal Improvements ( Transportation).
